Permanent Residency

On January 27th, 2013, SB 957 became a law in Illinois. The new law allows documented immigrants to obtain temporary driver's licenses (TVDL)for Illinois that are valid for one term of 3 years. Individuals can use these licenses only for driving purposes, not for identification. Individuals who have a TVDL can purchase automobile insurance and thus would not face fines or charges for driving without insurance.
